On the Train

Translated from Japanese into English by Saya

A cryptic story.

On working days, I always use the train.
Today too, when I was on the train, suddenly a woman appeared in front of me.
God, not again. It makes me feel so depressed.

Huh. Is the guy the conductor or something?

so basically she keeps dozing off and her reflection on the train door keeps
startling her when she wakes up? I guess?

Hi Saya-san.
This one is very cryptic indeed.

Is the narrator a conductor? And the woman jumped in front of the train to commit suicide? And that's why he's very depressed?
Other than this I got nothing.

Definitely the conductor. They always use the train "on working days" because they're, well, working. Women boarding a train don't appear "suddenly." Women jumping in front of one, though...

How sad.

The narrator was probably looking outside the train. I have watched scenes like this from asian horror movies. they never fail to scare the *beep* out of me.=, because i ride trains too and i always look outside.

The speaker is a train conductor..."the woman appearing in front of him" means that the train just hit a woman...o.O

I came up with the same answer as Nunu. The narrator is probably a conductor and a woman jumps in front of the train again.

It seems that the person is the train driver, and there are always women jumping towards the rails to commit suicide, and since he's on the front, he always sees them. And of course anyone would be depressed with seeing people kill themselves. :(

Yeah, i think nunu answer is true, the narrator is conductor, and s/he was saw a woman jump in front of the train...

So basically he hit the woman...

Sh**! Thank God I am no train conductor nor boarding on train to work. Fuuu~~~
And hello Saya san :)

The narrator is a conductor and the woman jumping in front of him is committing suicide (obviously by jumping in front of the train), which depresses him.

I don't think the narrator is the conductor/driver guys. It says he uses the train on work days (though it could be lost in translation), but I assume s/he's just going to or from work, but the train route is haunted (probably by someone that got hit).
Hi everyone! Thank you for your comments.

The "right answer" for this cryptic story which I often see on the web is that the narrator is a train conductor and the woman is someone who jumps in front of the train to commit suicide.

Or it could be that the woman is a ghost who keeps appearing at the same spot she jumped off.

Hmm, this is a very interesting story so I decided to share with some of my friends who are horror cryptic fans like me. The theory we came up is that the guy/narrator is just an ordinary working adult however he is able to see ghosts.

That will explain why he always use the train on working days. Conductors doesn't use a train. It will be weird if a bus driver use a bus every day.

Furthermore, the phrase "God, not again" implies that the narrator either encounter such horror incidents every day or the ghost woman appear to him every day. Imagine starting a day, witnessing a woman committing suicide. That will sure be depressing.

Hello there, dearest Saya! How are you? What have you been up to?

Long time haven't visited your Underworld. Half a year probably? Hope you still remember me :D

Well, as you can see, I'm still alive. And, as I could see, it has been really difficult to survive without your translations. Now I'm really happy that I haven't read so many stories in your blog yet, so I can enjoy them now. Once again, thank you very much for all the time and efforts you put into translating the stories!

Btw, this cryptic story reminds me of the Otoshimono movie. For certain, there was quite a similar episode there.
@regorgitated: Hello! How wonderful to see an old face again!

Of course I remember you. I've been wondering about you! :D

I'm good, and you? My life situation has changed dramatically, but I will talk about that later.

Aww I don't know that Otoshimono movie. Surprisingly, I don't watch many horror movies. LOL
I've recently watched "The Sacrifice" by Tarkovsky though. It was superb. Just pure beauty.

I also visited Serbia about one and a half months ago, and to my ear some parts of Serbian language sounded similar to Russian. I hope to learn at least a few Russian words before I die. LOL Such a charming language.

I hope you stop by and drop a comment again! Take care :D

Awwww, that's so nice :3

Ok, really interested to hear about changes in your life.
Welp, times have been a bit rough. I've been succumbed to depression and existential crisis. Quite typical of Russian people :D

Aye, Tarkovsky was one of the best things that happened to Russia in XX century. The only his work I haven't watched yet is the full version of Andrei Rublev.

Yeah, we Russians and Serbian bratushki are all dirty Slavs :D
Hmm, quite a lot of foreign people have told me that to them Russian sounds like "wrghrthjfg", so it's really nice that you find the language beautiful. Anyway, if you ever want to learn some Russian words, don't hesitate to ask.

Speaking about languages, I started learning Japanese. Must say that learning Japanese and Chinese at the same time is quite brain-bashing. Anyways, hope I'll be able to say at least something in Japanese in some... ehh... 10 years? Lol.

Cheers!

I really like reading through the comments. At first my mind was made that the storyteller is a passenger who saw a ghost's reflection in the train's mirror (though i still wondered how it depressed him/her I just assumed that he/she is fed up with the sightings). But the theory that the storyteller being the driver and someone committed suicide again along the tracks seem plausible indeed (kinda like Suice Club).

I thought this was posted before? I remember Saya (I'm pretty sure it was this blog!) explaining that the writer was a train conductor, and the woman was committing suicide.

hello guys, i am new here, my friend told me about this blog after i excitingly analalize some criptic story that had been translated in Indonesia, so here is my thought about this story....

yes, the men in the story is probably a train conductor, but as the story goes, i think the men here has some sixth sense, why do i say that? well in the story the men said "today too, when i was on the train, suddenly a woman appeared in front of me" the word "too" indicate that the men in the story ocasionally sees a person jump in front of the train, but when the i re-read the story, the sentence "today too" was followed by "...a woman" it's indicate that the conductor always sees this woman jump in front of the train which indicate that the woman is a ghost of someone who commit suicide and the ghost is "attached" to the place that she was commiting suiced to. that's why the conductor got depressed because he has to sees the ghost over and over again....

sorry if my analysis is kind of abusrd hahahha
btw, HELLO AGAIN! :D
